optimizing pelvic health, health care providers, holistic care, chiropractor, naturopathic doctor, massage therapy, psychotherapy

Hello! It's Karen, your pelvic floor physiotherapist at Bespoke Therapy. Read along to discover what holistic care truly means and which health care providers you should have on your team.

As a pelvic health physio, I rarely work in silo. This means that if our goal is to improve your pelvic floor function, there is often an immense benefit in working with other healthcare providers in tandem. As you continue reading, remember that this is not an exhaustive list. It does, however, demonstrate partnerships that have profoundly fostered better results for my clients. I will be mentioning some trusted local clinics with healthcare providers that my clients rave about!

Be open minded, place your biases aside for a minute, and let us get started!

Naturopathic Doctor

In the world of pelvic health, working with a naturopathic doctor can be life changing! They can be super knowledgable when it comes to treating weight loss struggles, hormonal imbalances, digestive health concerns, and fertility.

I often refer my clients to a naturopathic doctor when they are experiencing:

-Chronic constipation, irritable bowel syndrome/disease

-Menopause

-Weight management difficulty

-Endometriosis, Interstitial Cystitis

-Fertility concerns

-Recurrent urinary tract infections

My go-to local naturopathic doctors are:

-Markham Village Naturopathic Clinic https://markhamnaturopaths.com/

-Silver Spruce Naturopathic https://silverspruce.ca/

Chiropractor

Some of you may be surprised by this, but I recommend my clients seek out chiropractic treatment all the time! They have different skills and techniques that can compliment my pelvic physiotherapy care. I find that when a client has a chiropractor on their care team, it affords me a lot of time to focus on certain aspects of a pelvic health treatment program.

I often refer my clients to a chiropractor when they are experiencing:

-Prenatal pain (pelvic girdle pain, low back pain, sciatica)

-Postpartum discomforts

-General musculoskeletal concerns

My go-to local chiropractors are:

-DC Chiropractic https://dcchiroclinic.com/

-Moore Chiropractic Clinic https://moore-chiropractic.com/

Registered Massage Therapist

Another fantastic team member to have on your care team! Registered massage therapists dedicate entire treatment sessions to optimize your body. They help to relieve pain, reduce swelling, increase circulation, and induce a general sense of relaxation.

I often refer my clients to a registered massage therapist for:

-Prenatal well-being (prenatal massages)

-Postpartum care

-Increased muscle tone

-Conditions involving a sensitive central nervous system (urge urinary incontinence, endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, bladder pain syndrome, chronic pelvic pain syndrome)

My go-to local registered massage therapists are:

-Spine+ Wellness Centre https://www.spine-plus.com/

-Holmestead Massage Therapy https://www.holmesteadmassagetherapy.com/

Psychotherapist

Have you ever heard of a psychotherapist? Psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy and is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being. In my treatment room, I discuss psychological well-being with every single one of my clients. This is because one's mental well-being can be a huge contributing factor to their pelvic floor symptoms.

I often refer my clients to a psychotherapist for:

-Urge urinary incontinence or increased urgency/frequency

-Altered postpartum mental well-being (postpartum depression)

-History of trauma (particularly sexual trauma in my clientele)

-Pain with intercourse

My go-to local psychotherapist is:
